Gone.

And with footsteps echoing away like a faint distant memory, we have gone.

We left with much hurry and flurry, with only one last almost-forgotten backward glance toward the place that has been our home for three years. This home has seen us through friendships, through new jobs, through marriage and through redefinition of self.
We leave this apartment, but…

I wonder when it will hit me that we have left the home that has been our home for the past decade of our lives.

Goodbye, Santa Barbara. See you in another life.

  1. It's always sad leaving a house – I always get so attached to them. I find it really odd but even if I've stayed in a place for a few months it's important to me.

I'm sure you will always remember Santa Barbara and this stage in your life clearly – a decade is a long time. I'm sure you'll return many times too.

Good luck with the next steps – it must be exciting to look forward and the adventure that awaits.

PS – The watermark kind of looks like you've etched your name into the floor on the first photo (I did a double take – not enough coffee this morning!)

  2. Jade,

I rarely read your blog posts, but when I do I am always impressed by what a great writer you are.

No doubt our paths will cross at some point again…hopefully in Thailand?

  3. Goosebumps!

At the first line and picture. I was flooded with memories of leaving our apartment of 7 years. The home where we made a home, a family, where our babies came too. I am still getting teary thinking of it, and it was almost 2 years ago!

Thank you for linking up with us! I hope you'll join us for Write Pink! Starting tomorrow.

  4. Congratulations Jade! We are so excited for you and this next phase of adventure for you and Toby. I remember many a delicious meal in that cozy home of yours.
